💛 The One Person Who Deserves to Eat First (But Never Does)
Where allergy-friendly meets family-friendly—because mealtime shouldn’t be stressful.
👋 A Thought from the Kitchen
Mother’s Day was this past weekend, and for many moms, the day will look familiar:
Making reservations
Coordinating schedules
Helping kids get dressed
Cleaning up after breakfast in bed
Making sure everyone else enjoyed themselves
Even on the day meant to celebrate them… many moms are still carrying the weight of the house.
Including at the table.
🧠 The FOODSET Many Moms Carry
A lot of moms have quietly adopted a FOODSET that says:
“Everyone else eats first.”
Not always physically.
But emotionally.
Their nourishment gets pushed down the priority list:
Cold coffee
Skipped meals
Leftovers from the kids’ plates
Eating standing up between tasks
Over time, this becomes normal.
But normal doesn’t always mean healthy.
💛 Nourishment Is Not Selfish
There’s a difference between sacrifice and depletion.
And many moms are living depleted.
Not because they don’t care for their families.
But because they care so deeply that they forget they’re part of the family too.
FOODSET asks a different question:
“What happens to the home when mom is nourished too?”
Usually:
More patience
More energy
Better consistency
Better emotional regulation
Because nourishment affects more than the body.
It affects the atmosphere.
🌿 The Hidden Lesson Kids Learn
Kids notice:
When mom skips meals
When she says she’s “fine” but clearly exhausted
When everyone else’s plate matters more than hers
And without realizing it, they begin learning:
“Taking care of yourself comes last.”
That lesson follows people into adulthood.
🥄 This Mother’s Day, Shift the FOODSET
This year, don’t just celebrate mom.
Nourish her.
Not with guilt.
Not with extremes.
Not with another rushed brunch that leaves everyone tired afterward.
But with intention.
🍓 This Week’s Recipe: Chocolate Strawberry Yogurt Parfaits
Simple. Beautiful. Mom-approved.
Ingredients:
Greek yogurt or dairy-free yogurt
Fresh strawberries (sliced)
Dark chocolate shavings or chips
Granola (gluten-free optional)
Drizzle of honey or maple syrup
Optional: chia seeds or crushed almonds
Instructions:
Layer yogurt into a glass or bowl.
Add strawberries and granola.
Sprinkle dark chocolate.
Repeat layers.
Finish with a light drizzle of honey.
Ready in 10 minutes.
Feels special without becoming stressful.
👩👧 Let the Kids Help
Have the kids:
Layer ingredients
Slice strawberries
Write a small note beside it
Not because it has to look perfect.
But because participation builds connection.
And connection builds FOODSET.
🌱 A Better Mother’s Day Question
Instead of asking:
“What should we buy mom?”
Try asking:
“How can we help mom feel cared for?”
Sometimes the answer is:
A quiet meal
Nourishing food
Less pressure
More presence
